NEW YORK — New York's Village Halloween Parade, now in its 53rd year, steps off at 7 p.m. Saturday on Sixth Avenue, with thousands of participants and spectators expected, according to CBS News New York.
This year's theme is "Body and Soul," which the parade announced in September, according to CBS News New York and Hoodline.
A Village Halloween tradition
The parade is a fixture of the city's Halloween calendar. It draws costumed marchers and spectators to Greenwich Village. It runs up Sixth Avenue, and organizers say the crowds are thickest between Bleecker and 14th streets, CBS reported.
The "Thriller" zombie dance is a parade staple, CBS reported.
Street closures and getting around
CBS News New York reported that the city's Department of Transportation has listed extensive street closures for the parade on Saturday. Anyone travelling through the area on Saturday evening should expect delays and check official traffic advisories before heading out. CBS also noted that spectators and participants are advised to take the train or bus.
Weather looks dry
The forecast for Halloween night and Sunday's marathon is chilly but dry, according to PIX11. Highs are expected in the high 50s to low 60s, and tonight is forecast to be mostly clear.
