This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (USAO - Connecticut), published as received.

David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that RUDY ANTONYS BARRIENTOS-AVILA, 38, a citizen of Honduras, waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty today before U.S. District Judge Sarah F. Russell in New Haven to unlawful reentry of a removed alien.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on December 27, 2012, U.S. Border Patrol (“USBP”) in Hidalgo, Texas, arrested Barrientos-Avila and charged him with illegal entry into the U.S.  Barrientos-Avila pleaded guilty to the offense in the Southern District of Texas, was sentenced to time served and, on February 13, 2013, was removed from the U.S. to Honduras.  On December 24, 2018, USBP in Hildago, Texas, encountered Barrientos-Avila after he illegally reentered the U.S.  He was deported to Honduras on January 4, 2019.

Barrientos-Avila again illegally reentered the U.S. and, on March 20, 2025, he was arrested by Stamford Police and charged with possession of a controlled substance and breach of peace second degree.  On September 25, 2025, Stamford Police arrested Barrientos-Avila on charges of attempt to commit assault on public safety, possession with intent to sell a narcotic substance, criminal trespass second degree, breach of peace second degree, and interfering with an officer/resisting.  These cases remain pending in Stamford Superior Court.

Barrientos-Avila was located and arrested on September 29, 2026.  He has been detained since his arrest.

At sentencing, which is not scheduled, Barrientos-Avila faces a maximum term of imprisonment of two years.

This matter has been investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.  The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael S. Deel.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
