WILMINGTON, DEL. — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)), published as received.
WILMINGTON, Del. – A New Castle man was charged by criminal complaint with illegally possessing three firearms. The charge follows an investigation into social-media posts in which he allegedly called for violence against federal officials.
Gregory Wierzbicki, 66, is charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). He made his initial appearance today, October 14, 2026, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christopher J. Burke. He was ordered temporarily detained pending a detention hearing set for Monday, October 19, 2026.
According to court documents, Wierzbicki used Bluesky and Substack accounts from at least April 2025 through September 2026 to encourage violence against federal officials, including Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States and officers of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Wierzbicki also urged others to form an armed militia and described firearms and ammunition he possessed.
On October 14, 2026, FBI Baltimore’s Joint Terrorism Task Force executed a search warrant with support from the Supreme Court of the United States Police at Wierzbicki’s home in New Castle, Delaware. Inside the home, law enforcement found three firearms: a 12-gauge shotgun and two .22-caliber long rifles.
If convicted, Wierzbicki faces a maximum penalty of 15 years of incarceration. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge would determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
“The United States has alleged that Gregory Wierzbicki unlawfully possessed multiple firearms while calling for violence against public officials, including judges and law-enforcement officers,” stated U.S. Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace. “My office and our law-enforcement partners will act without hesitation to protect our nation’s public servants. We look forward to making our case against Wierzbicki in court.”
“The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force acted quickly to investigate Gregory Wierzbicki’s alleged threats of violence. Today’s arrest shows that if your idea of making a point is to threaten others, you shouldn’t be surprised when the FBI shows up at your door,” said FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul.
The FBI Baltimore Field Office’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, Supreme Court of the United States Police – Protective Intelligence Unit and Homeland Security Investigations are investigating the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin P. Pierce is prosecuting the case.
This case is part of the nationwide National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 initiative, which is a White House directed, interagency effort to integrate federal, state, and local partners in protecting First Amendment rights while targeting individuals and organizations engaged in political violence and is led by the investigative and prosecutorial Joint Task Force Vanguard.
