DES MOINES, IOWA — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (USAO - Iowa, Southern), published as received.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Department of Justice has recognized Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Hanson of the Southern District of Iowa for his outstanding appellate advocacy. Hanson received a Director’s Award from the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) during an awards ceremony held on October 28, 2026, in Washington, D.C.

AUSA Hanson was honored for Excellence as an Appellate Assistant United States Attorney, a prestigious award presented to only 12 attorneys from among the nation’s 93 United States Attorneys’ Offices. As the Southern District of Iowa’s Appellate Chief, Hanson prepares appellate briefs and presents oral arguments before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Hanson’s exemplary efforts have secured favorable results in significant cases involving a wide range of legal issues. Hanson also serves as an invaluable resource for the district’s trial attorneys facing complex and novel legal questions.

“We are proud to work alongside AUSA Kyle Hanson in the Southern District of Iowa. Kyle provides exceptional appellate advocacy and rigorous legal analysis in every case. This national recognition reflects Kyle’s outstanding achievements over the past year and his ongoing dedication to the mission and values of the Department of Justice,” said United States Attorney David C. Waterman.

Under the direction of the Deputy Attorney General, EOUSA provides oversight, general executive assistance, and direction to the 93 United States Attorneys’ Offices around the country. For more information on EOUSA and its mission, visit http://www.justice.gov/usao.
