ALBUQUERQUE — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)), published as received.

ALBUQUERQUE – A Georgia man pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a woman as she pumped gas at an Acoma Pueblo travel center before stealing her vehicle and fleeing from law enforcement.

According to court documents, on February 1, 2025, Jaquari Hezakiyah Porter, 26, approached Jane Doe as she was pumping gas at the Sky City Travel Center in Acoma, New Mexico. Porter shot the victim twice, killing her, and stole her vehicle before fleeing toward Grants.

Porter subsequently encountered officers from the Cibola County Sheriff's Office and Grants Police Department. He attempted to flee and fired at officers, who returned fire, striking Porter twice before apprehending him and taking him into custody.

Porter pleaded guilty to carjacking resulting in death and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. At sentencing Porter faces up to life in prison.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Special Agent in Charge Justin A. Garris of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office made the announcement today.

The FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Cibola County Sheriff's Office, Grants Police Department, and New Mexico State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meg Tomlinson, Jack Burkhead, and Natasha Moghadam are prosecuting the case.
