CONCORD — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (USAO - New Hampshire), published as received.

CONCORD – A federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) inmate was sentenced today in federal court for escaping a Manchester halfway house, U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan announces.

Daniel Irving, 35, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Steven J. McAuliffe to an additional 6 months in prison. On July 15, 2026, Irving pleaded guilty to escape from federal custody. He was previously serving an eight-year sentence for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine when he was transferred from a federal prison to the Hampshire House halfway home in Manchester. In October 2025, Irving tested positive for cocaine and was instructed to return to Hampshire House for discipline. Irving instead cut off his GPS monitor and ran. He was at large for four months until the U.S. Marshals captured him in late February 2026.

“Our system trusted the defendant to follow the rules by releasing him to a halfway home,” said U.S. Attorney Creegan. “Mr. Irving violated that trust and will now face additional time in federal prison. We will continue to work with our state and federal law enforcement partners to impose accountability on individuals who have shown themselves to be a danger to our communities and make sure they complete their sentences. Any attempt to escape will result in clear consequences.”

“We are incredibly proud of the U.S. Marshals Service team that worked diligently to apprehend Mr. Irving,” said Acting United States Marshal for the District of New Hampshire Katherine Burns.  “Our unwavering commitment to enforcing court orders is an important part of holding those engaged in the justice system accountable for their attempts to circumvent it.”

The United States Marshals Service led the investigation. The Goffstown Police Department and the Manchester Police Department provided valuable assistance. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Vicinanzo and Alexander S. Chen prosecuted the case.
