RENO — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (USAO - Nevada), published as received.

RENO – An Elko, Nevada, man was sentenced today by United States District Judge Miranda M. Du to 27 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release for assaulting a member of the Te-Moak tribe. The government recommended a sentence of 27 months in prison.

“This wasn’t a simple altercation—it was a vicious, cold-blooded attack using a deadly weapon to tear apart the safety of a community,” said First Assistant United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada. “By unleashing this level of brutal violence within Indian Country, the defendant showed an absolute, utter contempt for human life and tribal sovereignty. We will pursue anyone who threatens a community, and today’s sentence ensures this dangerous individual is stripped of his freedom.”

“Mr. Allison carried out a brutal, merciless attack on an innocent victim,” said Special Agent in Charge Christopher S. Delzotto for the FBI Las Vegas Field Office. “Today’s sentence underscores the unyielding commitment of the FBI, Tribal police, and our law enforcement partners to aggressively investigate and prosecute violent crime in Indian Country. Having admitted to assaulting the victim with a dangerous weapon, his fate is sealed. The message is clear: if you commit violent crimes, justice will find you.”

According to court documents, on October 30, 2025, Derrick Allison assaulted a woman within the boundaries of the Te-Moak Elko Indian Colony. He cut and stabbed the victim in the face and neck with a sharp object.

Allison pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon within Indian Country.

The FBI investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Steven Rose prosecuted the case.
