Following their initial appearances in federal court, Michael T. Lomax, 57, and Mario O. Lomax, 19, were charged with multiple federal crimes including: conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, kidnapping, Hobbs Act Robbery, discharging/brandishing/using firearms during and in relation to crimes of violence, carjacking, and other related offenses. Both men had initially been charged in Jackson County, Missouri Circuit Court. That case was dismissed in favor of federal charges.
According to the probable cause statement, two men wearing dark clothing, facemasks, and armed with handguns stormed into the house of 63-year-old Victim #1 at 6:20 a.m. Victim #1 was ordered on the floor at gunpoint to direct the men to any money or guns inside the residence. Victim #1 was then forced around their home at gunpoint, with the defendants discharging their firearms at least once for their compliance. Victim #1 was forced into their basement and told to remain there while they fled the residence. The defendants stole U.S. Currency, firearms, Victim #1’s car keys, and their cell phone.
