LAFAYETTE — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)), published as received.

LAFAYETTE – On October 29, 2026, United States District Judge David C. Joseph sentenced Henry Nicola Meyer, 26, of Eunice, to 42 months in federal prison for Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon and Possession of Five or More False Identification Documents, followed by three years of supervised release. Meyer previously pled guilty to the charges on July 9, 2026.

According to court documents, on October 9, 2025, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Eunice Police Department (EPD) executed a Louisiana search warrant at Meyer's residence when Meyer was on probation. Agents then located a padlocked bedroom containing Meyer's personal belongings and discovered a partially constructed “ghost gun” (a homemade, unregistered firearm) and 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Meyer admitted possessing the ammunition and acknowledged he was a convicted felon prohibited from doing so. Agents also recovered eight high-quality fake driver’s licenses bearing Meyer’s photograph, including licenses represented to be from Kentucky, Alaska, Colorado, and Georgia. Meyer admitted he knew the licenses were fraudulent and intended to use them unlawfully to misrepresent his identity.

U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller for the Western District of Louisiana made the announcement.

FBI and EPD investigated this case. It was prosecuted by United States Attorney Zachary A. Keller with the assistance of Paralegal Specialist Joanne Henry-Mills.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative that brings federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, prosecutors, and other public safety partners together to coordinate efforts to combat violent crime and make communities safe. Coordinated by U.S. Attorneys’ offices in each of the 94 federal districts, PSN is tailored to particular communities to strategically address specific violent crime and public safety challenges. As a key component of Operation Take Back America, PSN serves a central role in the Department’s commitment to make our country safe. PSN emphasizes three core principles: rapid federal response to violent crime and criminal offenders; strong, strategic partnerships among law enforcement at all levels; and accountability and deterrence through the prosecution of the most serious, readily provable offenses and other strategies. These efforts complement and strengthen President Trump’s Homeland Security Task Forces, ensuring a comprehensive federal response to the most pressing public safety issues facing communities.
