FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, ILL. — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (USAO - Illinois, Southern), published as received.

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft released a statement following a quadruple shooting on Sunday night in Madison and is asking for the public’s help:

On Sunday night, during a youth football championship game at Madison Senior High School, four people were shot. One person was killed at the scene, and three others were taken to area hospitals and are reported in stable condition. The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis is leading the investigation, along with the Madison Police Department.

The U.S. Department of Justice has directed all United States Attorneys to ensure a rapid federal response to combat violent crimes, and resources from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the FBI, the ATF, and the U.S. Marshal’s Service have been directed to assist.

An FBI tip line was created to receive photos and videos from the incident. We are asking the public to share every video and every photo from the incident, even if it did not capture the actual shooting incident. Any photo showing the crowd, clothing and faces could be critical to this investigation. Many of the events are captured on area surveillance cameras, but we need the public’s help to identify those involved. Please upload photos and videos to: https://tips.fbi.gov/digitalmedia/7a3b922a9c889f5.

Investigators are asking anyone who was at the game to come forward with information. Tips can also be given to the Major Case Squad command post at 618-709-7750 or to Crime Stoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477).

“While watching 12- and 13-year-olds play football, violence erupted and gunshots rang out killing one, injuring three, and creating terror for hundreds,” said United States Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft. “We don’t have to live like this. Law enforcement working with the community can bring this lawlessness to end. Please help us do so.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work closely with law enforcement and Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
