ST. PAUL — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)), published as received.
ST. PAUL – United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen announced that Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia, both of Waller, Texas, were sentenced to 180 months and 186 months in prison, respectively, for their roles in a September 2025 armed robbery and kidnapping of a family in Grant, Minnesota.
The Garcia brothers were sentenced before U.S. District Judge Donovan W. Frank on October 29, 2026, and both previously pleaded guilty on June 18, 2026.
According to court documents, on September 19, 2025, Raymond and Isiah Garcia, who had traveled from Texas to Minnesota, kidnapped Victim 1 and his family in their home at gunpoint. They zip‑tied the family, held them at gunpoint for over nine hours, and demanded access to Victim 1’s cryptocurrency accounts. When Victim 1 did not transfer the expected amount of cryptocurrency, the brothers forced Victim 1 to drive Isiah Garcia to the family’s cabin in upstate Minnesota. There, Garcia forced Victim 1 to retrieve additional cryptocurrency storage devices and transfer the funds. The defendants ultimately compelled Victim 1 to transfer more than $8 million in cryptocurrency. The brothers fled the area after the victim’s son called 911, and law enforcement later identified and arrested them near Houston, Texas.
“The Garcia brothers committed a brazen and calculated act of violence against the victim and his family. My office will continue to pursue those who use intimidation and threats to exploit victims, no matter where they flee,” said United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen.
“Raymond and Isiah Garcia violated the sanctity of a home, abducted a victim, terrorized a family at gunpoint for hours, and disrupted an entire community in a brazen act of violence and greed,” said FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson. “The defendants’ acts were targeted, deliberate, and extremely violent. Crimes like this have real and lasting impacts on victims and entire communities. The FBI and our law enforcement partners will act immediately and unrelentingly to protect our community and bring violent offenders to justice. I hope that today’s sentence is an important step toward healing for the victims as they recover from these events.”
This case was the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca E. Kline prosecuted the case.
