MIAMI — This is an official press release from the U.S. Department of Justice (USAO - Florida, Southern), published as received.

MIAMI – Two Miami men have been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for their roles in a drug trafficking conspiracy that distributed fentanyl, fentanyl analogues, and cocaine throughout Miami-Dade County.

U.S. District Judge Jose E. Martinez sentenced Jose Rodriguez Jr., 27, of Miami, to 121 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute 10 grams or more of fentanyl analogues and 40 grams or more of fentanyl.

Juan Carlos Nunez, 27, of Miami, was also sentenced to 131 months in federal prison after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute 10 grams or more of fentanyl analogues and 40 grams or more of fentanyl, distribution of fentanyl, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

“Fentanyl trafficking is deadly, and those who profit from spreading this poison through our communities will face serious consequences,” said U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida. “Rodriguez will spend more than 10 years in federal prison, and Nunez nearly 11 years, for their roles in distributing fentanyl throughout Miami-Dade County. Nunez also carried a loaded firearm while trafficking these deadly drugs. Their sentences reflect the seriousness of these crimes and our commitment to aggressively prosecute fentanyl traffickers in South Florida.”

According to court records, between January 2024 through May 2025, Rodriguez led a drug trafficking organization that distributed fentanyl, fentanyl analogues, and cocaine throughout Miami-Dade County. Rodriguez negotiated drug transactions with undercover law enforcement officers, set prices and quantities, and directed co-conspirators, including Nunez, to complete drug transactions on his behalf. Rodriguez received a sentencing enhancement for his leadership role in the conspiracy.

Nunez served as a distributor for Rodriguez, selling hundreds of fentanyl pills to undercover officers. In May 2025, Nunez delivered 300 fentanyl pills to an undercover officer while carrying a Glock handgun in his waistband.

U.S. Attorney Reding Quiñones and Special Agent in Charge José R. Figueroa of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Miami made the announcement.

HSI Miami investigated the case, with assistance from the Miami Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Almas Abdulla prosecuted the case.
